ABOUT US
As a father of three tech-mad boys, I found the only challenges that captured their interest were those completed with their favourite Avatars in a virtual world.
I wanted to show them that they too could develop and acquire new skills and strengths. My challenge was to create something interesting, interactive, physically active, progressive and most importantly, outdoors.
Easy right?!
After much deliberation, my inspiration came from an unlikely source. Late one night mid Covid-19 Pandemic; I returned from work to a sleeping house.
I grabbed a cold beer, hit the movie channels and stumbled upon....
The film (for those that don’t watch 1970’s Kung Fu Movies) follows an aspiring Kung Fu Master training his way through the 35 Chambers of Kung Fu, each chamber facilitating an innate muscular response to the task at hand. The 36th Chamber is metaphorical, it is representative of his personal mission- to take his newly developed Kung Fu Mastery into the world and teach the art to the laypeople.
Well, I’m no Kung Fu master, but I fell in love with protagonist’s desire and determination to succeed.
Earlier in the week, my eldest son had been challenged to complete five kick ups by one of my fellow football coaches at our local club. He took on the challenge and succeeded after a few hours. Thanks to lockdown, football challenges flooded the internet aplenty. We had no choice but to embrace new challenges- and new ways to entertain ourselves.
And so- thanks to a small team of wonderfully talented people, lock down, Kung Fu movies and let’s face it... the beer! Chamber Nine was born in March 2020. Kick up challenge meets Kung Fu Mastery. The progressive kick up challenge takes the player from New Beginner (5 kick ups) right through 24 levels, where they can become Grand Master. No strings or keep up aids allowed to encourage the player to understand the natural movement of the ball from the beginning. I opted for a size 3 ball to increase the difficulty, concentration and co-ordination required.

Our focus at Chamber Nine is to try and improve the physical and mental well-being of all our players by encouraging social interaction with other players, exercising and learning new skills.
